The Shard Laser Show

The Shard Laser Show

Laser Show the Shard

Europe’s tallest building topped off in 2012 in London with a dynamic laser show.

The iconic Shard towers over the London skyline, visible for many miles around the capital.

Tasked with the VIP launch event to bring the structure to life. Centred around a laser show concept utilising fixtures which could stand up against the eerily yellow glow of a London night, whilst satisfying the CAA that safety of flights, passengers and their pilots was of primary concern. The original agency idea being to give the creative impression that the building was “bouncing” lasers off itself and connection with iconic London..

We chose searchlights and lasers to reach out from the tower into London and connect the Shard with other London landmarks, like St Pauls Cathedral, Canary Wharf, The Barbican and many more.

Planned over 3 months the technical execution was complex as the technical team had to accommodate the working building site.

Synched to a classical soundtrack we programmed a light and laser show for the inaugural event, which was viewed by dignitaries from Old Billingsgate, across the river.

30 searchlights and 11 high powered laser systems lit up the London skyline. We?handled the entire project with logistics, cranes, crew, power, lights, lasers and wireless DMX broadcast across the river.
